Day Trips from Boston

Just a short 30-minute drive from Boston, Salem makes for a perfect day trip destination. Here's a one-day itinerary to make the most of your visit to the historic city of Salem. 

MORNING:

Start your day by visiting the Salem Witch Museum to learn about the infamous Salem Witch Trials of 1692 and learn about the history of witchcraft.

Explore the nearby Salem Witch Trials Memorial, a tribute to the victims of the trials.

Head to the House of the Seven Gables, a historic mansion made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel. Take a guided tour of the house and explore the beautiful grounds and gardens.

NOON:

Enjoy lunch at one of the local eateries in downtown Salem, such as Gulu-Gulu Cafe or Howling Wolf Taqueria, both known for their delicious food and cozy atmosphere.

Visit the Peabody Essex Museum, which houses collections of art and cultural exhibits from around the world.

One day in Cape Cod is not nearly enough to explore, but you can certainly make the most of your time with the following one-day itinerary. 

MORNING:

Arrive in Hyannis, one of the main hubs on Cape Cod. Stroll along Main Street, visit the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum, and learn about the town's rich maritime history at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum.

Enjoy a relaxing harbor cruise to enjoy the coastline, or take a tour to see the adorable seals up close.

NOON:

Savor a delicious lunch at one of the local restaurants, sampling fresh seafood or Cape Cod's famous clam chowder.

Head to a nearby beach like Craigville Beach or Kalmus Beach to soak up the sun and dip your toes in the Atlantic Ocean. 

Or if you choose to head to Provincetown and take a scenic drive to the northern tip of Cape Cod, explore the vibrant art scene, browse through local galleries, and take a leisurely walk along Commercial Street. 

EVENING:

Drive to Chatham, a charming coastal town known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant Main Street.

Visit the Chatham Lighthouse, a picturesque landmark with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and Chatham Harbor. Then head to Lighthouse Beach for a magical Cape Cod sunset. It's a perfect spot to end your day with a breathtaking view.

Enjoy a delightful dinner at one of the local seafood restaurants in Chatham, and finish the day with an ice cream from Buffy’s Ice Cream Shop.

Martha's Vineyard is located about 69 miles southeast of Boston, MA. The most common way to reach Martha's Vineyard from Boston is by taking a ferry from Cape Cod which takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. Alternatively, you can also fly from Boston Logan International Airport to Martha's Vineyard Airport, which takes around 35-40 minutes.

MORNING

Start your day by renting a car and heading to one of the breakfast spots in Oak Bluffs. 

Visit the Gingerbread Cottages in the Oak Bluffs Campground. These whimsical and colorful Victorian-style cottages are a must-see attraction. Don't forget to visit the Flying Horses Carousel, the oldest in the US.

Head to the picturesque town of Edgartown. Stroll along the cobblestone streets, admire the historic homes, and visit the Edgartown Lighthouse for breathtaking views of the coastline.

Head to South Beach to enjoy some sun and sand. This unspoiled beach is perfect for relaxing, swimming, or beachcombing.

NOON

Drive or take a guided tour to Aquinnah to witness the stunning clay cliffs and the iconic Gay Head Lighthouse. Grab a delightful lunch at Menemsha Galley, a nearby seafood restaurant.  

EVENING
